Cafe Sua Da French Toast
The perfect way to use up all that instant coffee you bought, when making whipped coffee! This French toast is super easy and tastes exactly like a cup of Vietnamese coffee. Don’t forget the condensed milk!
INGREDIENTS
BATTER
1 tsp cinnamon
Pinch salt
4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
1 tbsp instant coffee, dissolved in 2 tbsp hot water
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk, half and half or heavy cream
BREAD & TOPPINGS
6 pieces of bread (dried out or old brioche or challah is best. But any stale bread will do)
Additional condensed milk (for topping)
Powdered sugar (for topping)
DIRECTIONS
Whisk all ingredients for the batter together. Add in coffee last when it’s not hot
Dip bread into batter, coating both sides generously
Melt 1/2 tbsp butter in a wide skillet on medium-low heat
Fry the bread for approximately 3 minutes per side or until golden
Garnish with a dusting of powdered sugar and drizzle of condensed milk
Outside should be nicely caramelized with a slight crust on the edges, inside should have a soft almost custard-like texture
