Spam Musubi

Surely you must have some Spam in that stockpile! Perfect for breakfast on the go or a quick snack. Add some furikake seasoning to the rice for even more flavor!

INGREDIENTS

SPAM

  • 2 cups sushi rice, dry

  • Fried seaweed sheets, cut into strips

  • 2 cans (a 12 oz can makes approx. 6-8 depending on preferred thickness)

  • 1 dozen eggs

SAUCE

  • 1/3 cup soy sauce

  • Pinch of dried hot pepper (optional)

  • 1/3 cup oyster sauce

  • 1/4 cup sugar

DIRECTIONS

  • Sauce

    • Mix all ingredients until sugar dissolves

  • Rice

    • Cook rice according to package. Spread out in a large bowl or tray to cool faster

  • Spam

    • Slice spam. Be sure to save the container(s)!

    • Pan fry on low until crispy and browned

    • Transfer to paper towel

  • Eggs

    • Pan fry eggs frittata style in a large disc. 1 egg per spam. Set aside to cool

  • Assemble

    • Line spam containers with plastic wrap using 10 inch squares

    • 3-4 tbsp cooked Rice bottom layer. Don’t worry about smushing it down yet

    • Add a layer of egg

    • Brush or dip spam with sauce on one side

    • Put spam in container, sauce side down, gently press down from the center to smush down all other layers

    • Pull together edges of plastic wrap and twist. Then pull out of container. Set aside in fridge

    • Repeat with remaining ingredients 

  • Seaweed:

    • Unwrap musubi

    • Wrap seaweed around musubi and rewrap in plastic wrap for storage 

  • Store in fridge
